Roof-Tent Camper Rental near Tokyo: Mitsubishi Delica D:5
NOVA BASECAMP is our camping line. The Delica D:5 is a 4WD diesel minivan with a hard-shell roof-top tent, so you can drive to a campsite near Mt. Fuji or in the mountains west of Tokyo and sleep above the car. From ¥23,650 per day, including the required CDW/NOC cover and tax.
New in our fleet: available for pick-ups from 15 October 2026.

Pick-up and handover
- Every rental starts with an in-person handover of about 30 minutes: our staff show you how to open and close the roof tent and awning and how to use the ladder. There is no key-box self pick-up for this vehicle.
- Hachioji: check in at our Owada shop (open 08:00 to 18:00). Coming by train? We pick you up at JR Hachioji Station free of charge.
- Airport or hotel: possible by arrangement. Because the camper is about 2.35 m tall, we agree the meeting point after you book and use the nearest car park that can take it.
Camping rules (summary)
- Open the roof tent and awning only at campsites, RV parks (RVパーク) and other places where tents are allowed, never on the road or at a roadside station (道の駅). Check with the campsite in advance that you can drive onto your pitch and use a roof tent.
- Before driving, close and secure the tent and pack away the awning, ladder, pegs and ropes. Nobody may ride in the tent while the car is moving.
- No stoves, campfires, charcoal, gas lanterns or heaters inside the car, the roof tent, a ground tent or under the awning (fire and carbon monoxide risk). Campfires only where the campsite allows them, on a fire stand.
- Do not open the tent or awning when winds of 10 m/s or more are forecast. In a thunderstorm, move into the car.
- At about 2.35 m, the camper cannot use multi-storey, underground, mechanical or covered car parks, height bars, drive-throughs or automatic car washes.
- Paved roads and ordinary roads to campsites only: no riverbeds, beaches, forest tracks or off-road driving.
- Non-smoking, including inside the roof tent. No pets.

Excludes tolls, fuel, winter tyres in Dec–Mar (¥1,650/day), peak-season surcharge (¥2,200/day) and off-hours handover (¥2,200 per side outside 08:00–20:00). Promotions, if running, are applied automatically at booking. Refundable deposit: ¥100,000.
- The cleaning fee (¥5,500 per rental) covers normal sand and mud, drying the tents and washing the bedding.
- Damage to or loss of the roof tent or camping gear is not covered by CDW/NOC. Repair or replacement costs are charged and can be taken from the deposit (¥100,000).
- Cancellation and changes follow our standard Cancellation & Changes rules.
Camping gear (optional)
Gear is not included in the daily rate. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp or in the booking notes and we will add it to your quote. Gas canisters, firewood, charcoal and food are not included.

Prices are per rental, tax included. Gear is limited and may be replaced with equivalent items.
Where to camp
Campsites around the Fuji Five Lakes, Doshi in Yamanashi, Okutama and the Tanzawa mountains are within about 1 to 2 hours of Hachioji. Popular sites fill up at weekends, so book your pitch early and ask whether roof tents are allowed.
Related questions
The deposit is a card pre-authorisation: ¥50,000 for 5-seat cars, and ¥100,000 for 7–8 seat minivans and our 4WD vehicles. Because international card holds are only guaranteed for about 7 days, we send the deposit link within three days before your pick-up. The hold is released after the car is returned and post-rental charges are settled.
Yes. Before payment cancellation is free. After payment, a cancellation fee may apply depending on timing (capped at ¥6,600 in regular season and ¥7,700 in peak season if you cancel 72 hours or more before pick-up). Within 72 hours, up to the full basic rental fee may be charged. See Cancellation & Changes for details.
Most of our cars take regular petrol (レギュラー, red nozzle). Our 4WD Van and 4WD Camper with Roof Tent run on diesel: fill them with 軽油 (keiyu), the green nozzle. Petrol in a diesel engine can cause serious damage, so if you are not sure, ask the station staff or message us before refuelling.
Only at campsites, RV parks (RVパーク) and other places where tents are allowed. Opening the tent on the road, in an ordinary car park or at a roadside station (道の駅) is not allowed.
