Yes. In Japan a vehicle with up to 10 seats including the driver is an ordinary passenger vehicle, so an ordinary car licence together with a valid 1949 Geneva Convention IDP (or a Japanese translation for the translation countries) is enough. You do not need a bus or minibus category. Details in our IDP guide.

Driving tips for a Hiace in Japan
- It is long and tall but narrow, so city streets are fine. Take extra care at low car-park entrances (2.1 m limits are common) and choose surface car parks.
- Expressway tolls for the Hiace Wagon are the same class as a normal car.
- From December to March the van runs on winter tyres, which are required on many roads around Mt. Fuji and in the mountains.
- Only one 10-seater is in the fleet, so please book early for holiday periods.
